Adam Somner (1967 – November 27, 2024) was a British and American assistant director and film producer, known for working with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Alejandro González Iñárritu, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Ridley Scott. Somner spent most of his career as an assistant director, but was twice nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture for producing the films Licorice Pizza (2021) and One Battle After Another (2025), the latter being awarded posthumously.

Somner was born in London in 1967.[1][2]

Career

He produced Anderson's Licorice Pizza (2021), which was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture, a BAFTA Award for Best Film, Producers Guild of America Award for Best Theatrical Motion Picture, and a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. One Battle After Another (2025) was his final work and is dedicated in his memory.

Death

Somner died from anaplastic thyroid cancer in Studio City, Los Angeles, California, on November 27, 2024, at the age of 57.[3][4][5][6]
